If yes, do you think it is okay to perform searches using that Adsense for search boxes or is it the violation of google program policies?

I was myself confused about this, and did some research on the subject. Based on what I read on the web, and replies from Google itself, Yes – it is okay to perform searches on your own Adsense for search boxes. Although, it is strongly recommended that you do not do it frequently.

Reason being, that first off, you increase the chances of accidental clicks on the ads that appear on the search results pages. It can also misrepresent the numbers it shows in your reports, for who searched for your website, thus giving you inaccurate activity on your site.

You can always use Google search for that matter, you can also install Google toolbar for accurate results.
