Craigslist was founded in March, 1995 by Craig Newmark as an email list in San Francisco and Bay Area. It is a free local community based classifieds website that is most popular in San Francisco and other US cities. You can find tons of categories to choose from. They also have a popular forum where you can find varied discussions on different subjects. According to the latest reports, as of January 2008, they reported 26.7 million unique visitors in the US. Worldwide, they have some 27.8 million unique visitors.

Kijiji (pronounced as kee-gee-gee) was founded in March 2005. It was launched in US in 2007.Kijiji, is also a free local community based classifieds website that is more popular outside of US. Although, it is catching up fast in the States also. As of January 2008, they had 2.3 million US visitors and 21.6 million worldwide. Seems like they are closing the gap fast with Craigslist.

What Craigslist lacks - Kijiji is available in different languages in other countries. It makes it popular internationally. Whereas Craigslist is English only website. Other advantage of Kijiji is the colorful theme of the website. Craigslist has not changed much in the last 10 or more years. They have not been making any major changes or maybe they are but not noticeable.

What Kijiji lacks – Kijiji technical support is very hard to reach. If you have been having any problems, you have to post your issues in the discussion forums. There too you cannot find the accurate answers. Blocking criteria that Kijiji uses makes it hard for genuine users to post their ads. If the genuine posters are blocked or their ads removed, there is possibly no way to find out what happened and how they can fix their ads. They just keep you guessing as to what may have happened. Very painful experience.

Who wins, finally - you ask?

It’s the consumers, you and me. The more competition between these online giants, the better services we get.

Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google that uses the WebKit layout engine.

I downloaded and installed the software this morning. First impressions that I gather from the look and feel was refreshing. Although, it looks somewhat similar to Firefox 3.0, at least the way you are prompted to save your password for certain websites on the top. But this is all look and feel. How about the backend stuff. Is that any better than other browsers, I have been wondering.

To run  a few tests, I open up my options from “Customize and Control Google Chrome”. You can set your homepage by going to tools-> options-> Basics. I was able to import all my bookmarks from IE and Firefix with no problems at all, but the button for bookmarks show up on the right hand side. I guess I will have to get used to that. I ran into Google unresponsive problem while loading gmail. This is the message that I received.

Google Chrome loads pages faster than other browsers. Almost all the sites loaded up instantly. I had issues with some login pages that require java. There were some problems with games when loading flash. It would get stuck and would not load the whole page.

All these problems are not huge and would not stop me from start using Chrome as of today. As for my opinions on what others think about Chrome, there are two groups of people who like or dislike Chrome. Tech savvy people are biased towards G-Chrome and love it. They are waiting for some more updates though. Non techy people are not liking it so much, uninstalled the software and went back to using IE and FF. As far as I am concerned, I am not a techy person, but keep using Chrome along with other browsers.

I guess there are some problems that Google needs to sort out with beta Chrome, with this being their newest software still in beta version and what not. I am pretty sure they are reading all the reviews about G-Chrome and working on it right now, as we talk.

Update: As of November 2011, Chrome is the second most widely used browser with 25.69% worldwide usage share of web browsers and the most popular browser in South America, according to StatCounter.
